African Violets
African Violets are so easy to grow and yet many people are afraid of this. At present I have plants that are covered with lovely blooms. Some of these I started from a single leaf cut from the original plants that I already had so they are the same color. When you buy African Violets they soil is not much good. If you want nice big plants you should get larger pots. Buy some African Violet soil which is very inexpensive. Put this into your bigger pots and re pot your plants or newly developed leaves that are now plants. Watering is done by letting water sit out at room temperature for at least one day. I have a watering can. I count to three when putting on the water and it doesn't seem to hurt the leaves if it gets on them. Have a certain day and water on that day once a week. At this time I check and cut off any dead flowers and leaves with a small scissor. If there seem to be too many leaves you can trim them back as they hide the flowers. They like to sit in and east window or west where they can get some sun. Starting new plants is easy. Just take the long stemmed leaf you have cut off and put it in a glass of water. It won't be long and you will see some roots coming. Then you can follow the outline above. Fertilizing can be done according to the directions on the package of African Violet Fertilizer, usually in a small plastic container. So get a few African Violets and start you plants now. Good Luck. I know you will enjoy them.
