Ants Like Dry Cat Food
If you have been having a lot of rainy weather it may cause Ants to enter your home. It is that time of year. I have had this happen twice when I found Ants in my dry cat food. They are so tiny that you can barely see them. I really don't think kitty wants to eat Ants. Once they were in the bag of food, but last week they were in the dish. I had to dump it all into the garbage can outside and wash the dish thoroughly. I did put some liquid Ant poison in the outside can where the cat could not get near it. It comes in a little squeeze container and works well as long as you don't have it near children or pets. They were also on the floor around the dish so that had to be cleaned as well with soap and water. I haven't seen any for a couple of days so guess I got them all. They can get in a lot of things so is good to eliminate them asap. With this hot weather they need a lot of water in their dish too. I like to wipe it out with paper as it tends to get a slimy film after a bit. Keep kitty cool too on these Summer days.

There is no need to throw away perfectly good kitty food because of ants. The ingestion of ants is not harmful (unlike the ingestion of fleas, which are carriers of tapeworm). Moreover, you can tap the bowl with your finger, which will cause the ants to break off their luncheon and depart in a hurry. While the use of insecticide may be necessary in some cases, there are many cases when it can be avoided. Lastly, I should point out that if there's cat food in the bowl, that means kitty didn't finish her dinner, and you are probably feeding her too much. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and premature death. Remember, it is the cat food manufacturers who recommend feeding unlimited amounts of food to your pet.

CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Thanks for the info. We have a very spoiled cat and she wants some food in her dish. Also, sometimes a person goes away and has to leave food. I know once these critters get into the house we have to get rid of them fast or our own food will be full of them. Positive comments always accepted.
