Candian National Exhibition or CNE or The Ex
As long as I remember as a child my family went to the CNE every year. It is a very pleasant memory for me. At that time, back in the forties and fifties we had what would now be an antique car and the road into Toronto went along Lake Ontario with two lanes. It was a pleasant drive past parkland and water. I remember stopping and going on the adult Merry Go Round. The horses were big and they went really fast so you had to hold on or fall off. It was later moved to the Ex. There were many buildings with different showcase themes. We always liked the Food Building where there were free samples of various products. The Automobile Building always had the newest arriving next year's models to view. And, of course, The Midway always had the biggest and latest rides. Every day had a theme and many liked the Air Show or Veteran's Day. There were animal buildings and flower show buildings and fashions and sports and of course the sales pitches for fancy items to buy. You name it they were there. We always stayed until the closing so we could see the giant fireworks display. Now you will be traveling past and on many busy expressways in the same area, but the CNE is still in the same place, as it is Canada's largest annual exhibition. It runs until Labour Day and that signals the end of Summer. Now you can also visit Ontario Place just across a bridge into the water. It is a great adventure area for the family and is open even when the CNE is not. To learn and see more about this popular place visit the url links I have added.
