Erie Windfarms Tour

Yesterday it was a hot day so I decided to travel from Port Rowan, Ontario along Lake Erie through The Erie Windfarm. It was such a relaxing trip.

This is one of Ontario's largest windfarms. Although there are others, especially along Lake Erie and Lake Huron, this is one where you drive right along beside it.

I was living in Port Burwell when feelers were put out with the local farmers to see if they would like to have the huge giants on their land. Many have several now and receive payments for this.

Just west of Port Rowan the last installations have just begun to operate and as you drive quite close to them it is really something to see.

Being so near to the lake and the soil being very good for various crops it is a neat trip.

I went past Tobacco farms, corn, cucumbers being picked, then golden fields of grain. There are Cherries now ripe and being picked and for sale. These all blend together for a lovely sight.

About ten miles along there is a park called The Sand Hills and I remember climbing these huge deposits when I was a child. It is now a camping area and they also have Elk and small Deer to see. A truly unique place.

The Windfarm follows all along Lake Erie to Port Burwell where they now have an Interpretive Center.

West past here there are about five miles of Windfarm and then I arrived at another beach town called Port Bruce. The pier was busy with a lot of Fishermen, meaning Perch are being caught. This is a prime area for them and such a good fish. Perch is a favorite at the restaurants in this area.

I followed along Lake Erie to Port Stanley where the beach was very full of pretty umbrellas.

On my return voyage I was going to swim but actually it was so nice and breezy that I just sat on the hill at Port Burwell and looked out over the water.

It was a nice, restful day.
