Gas Prices Hurting Seniors
The price of gas is hurting seniors as well as those who have to go to work every day. Here in Ontario, Canada gas is today $1.25 per liter or about $5.00 per gallon. Living in a small town retirement village is lovely, but as we age we attend more Doctors, Clinics, Hospitals, etc. Some of my neighbors are on the road every other day and these places are at least twenty up to eighty miles away. We have some nice stores here but not the larger shopping marts that many like to visit for greater selection of goods. Usually we make one trip and go to these stores when on a medical run. Then if someone gets to the point that one has to go into a special care facility it means the other partner must drive to visit them. It seems that every time they go the tank goes empty or the gas price goes up. I passed a station yesterday and an hour later when I went back it had gone up five cents per liter. Needless to say many are opting to move back to the larger cities they came from originally In town, many walk or ride bicycles if they are able. Yes, I think you will see people moving closer to their lifestyles. Actually, what people need to do is write down the figures and add them up or they do not realize what it is costing them to have two cars and be driving a long way to work or play.
