Ice Fishing
Have you ever gone Ice Fishing? Neither have I, but I love to see the little huts out on the Bay or Lake. Some people, mostly men, have a great extent of gear to do this. They will build a little hut that may look like an outhouse or perhaps a bit bigger. This can be put on a sled and then pulled out onto the frozen over water with a snowmobile or their vehicle. Once out there, they have some form of heat and a place to sit. In order to fish they must drill a hole into the ice until they hit water. Now they are ready to spend hours waiting for the bait to kick in. Of course, they are visiting and eating and having beverages while waiting. This was the first weekend I have seen the group of houses on our Bay as it has been cold then warmer off and on. Now today it is raining so many will bring them in to shore. If they should sink through the softer ice they are responsible to remove them at their expense. This could include their vehicle, so there might be a bit of cost. Of course, there are also several places that rent the huts and take them out for the fishermen and they are careful that it is the proper time to do this. The further north one goes the better chance there is of a lasting success, but here on the north shore of Lake Erie at The Bay has always been a fun place for the Ice Fishermen.
