Keeping Cool With Trees
Many year ago I was sitting out on a hot day with some neighbors under their giant Willow Tree. The elderly Grandma noted that not only did it give shade but also acted as a huge fan. I had never thought of this but it is true. I have moved many times and lived in various types of dwellings but I really miss the trees if there are none. My present house has an Aspen Tree on the front lawn and it helps to cool us from the morning sun. The last place I lived had a lot of trees and they were close to the house which is a bit scary when there are storms. On one occasion a large branch fell off and as it was also by the front living room it sure made that room a lot hotter. If you have the chance plant some trees and get some shade. Check with Nurseries to find the type you want. Some grow faster or bigger than others. Some have roots that will head for water pipes or septic tanks. If you don't want to rake leaves maybe pick one that stays green all year. These can be nice for Christmas decorating as well. Last week I made a special point of looking for parking spaces with shade as I have no air conditioning in my car. I actually found some at the very edge of the Malls. It also gave me some exercise walking a little further while my car stayed cool. Last Winter I went south and the place had Palm Trees all over but I was never too hot. I was worried before I left as I had read reviews of this place and some said there were too many trees. Well, if I have the chance to go again I hope it has lots of trees. I can always move my beach chair to get in the sun without too much trouble. I have also learned to go to the beach early and know where the shady spots are. Once all the people come those are gone and so am I. Hope this helps you cool off on these Summer days.
