Mango Poisoning
When I was young I had Poison Ivy and Poison Oak. In my twenties I moved to Florida into a house that had several Mango trees around it. One day I picked a couple and carried them into the house in my arm. I only ate a small amount and did not like it. The next day I started a new job. My face was all swollen and there were itchy spots where the Mango sap had touched my arm. When I got to my job people said that I had Mango Poisoning. I went to an Allergist and he confirmed this diagnosis. He said the trees were related to Poison Ivy and many people can't even walk under them without a problem. He advised me to take off all jewelry so I didn't become allergic to it. A shot from him and it soon was ok. It has only been in the last few years that I have seen Mangos in stores here in the north. I will not even touch them and often wonder if other people have been affected by them and didn't know what it was. They are even putting this in beverages and some restaurants put it into salads now. I hope if you are allergic to Poison Ivy you will be aware that this could be another problem to watch for.
