Old Record Players

You now see record players being sold that copy those of the 50's. These copies, of course, have cassettes, radios, cd's. etc. too.

The old ones had just a turnstyle but would often hold about five records that fell down as they played. The records would break and had one song on each side.

Later they brought in 45's which were small and had a large hole in the middle. They also were made with one song on each side and you had to put a little round adapter on the spindle of the record player.

In my teens I got a record player for our rec room and one record that I played again and again. It was "Green Door' by Fats Domino.

At a teen dance in the fifties someone would just bring a record player and play their songs. Everyone stood up along the sides of the walls and girls waited to be asked to dance. They didn't ask the boys. The girls wore tight sweaters, circle skirts made of felt or reversible plaid skirts, and white buck or saddle shoes with ankle socks rolled down.

Hairstyles included the ponytail, Italian with curls around the face or DA. I will leave it to you to figure that one out.
