Spring Signs
Here on the north shore of Lake Erie the Tundra or Whistling Swans are still around, but many have headed northwest. They go along the lake to a town called Alymer where there is a viewing area around a pond. Another gathering place is Grand Bend area on Lake Huron at The Pinery Provicial Park. April 2nd our local bunny was out on our lawn. We live at the edge of the country so these little rascals abound around our houses. The problem is that some people here love them and some hate them because they like to eat their lovely flowers that many have around their homes. Well, anyway, my cat loves to watch them out the window and if I was to let her out would love to chase one. They are so tame that they don't even run away. Robins are all over the lawn now and a large group of Grackles was looking over the grass for food. Most of our snow has gone except for a few shady places. There have been some places flooded a few days ago and there are worries that places like Ottawa and the more northern areas may have problems when the huge amounts of snow that they got there will melt. We are fortunate in our area as many years ago large areas at the head of rivers were purchased and made into recreational lakes with campgrounds. A dam controls the flow of the water and prevents flooding of the villages downstream. Most of the Maple Syrup Festivals are over as they are usually making that in March. That is another story and a tasty one.
