The Great Lakes, Huron
Lake Huron is the 3rd largest of The Great Lakes of N. America, and is 23,010 sq. mi. It was named after the natives in this area, The Huron Tribe. It goes from north to south along Michigan, U.S.A. on the west and Ontario, Canada on the east. The northern area is quite cold in winter and is a great tourist area on both sides of the border which divides the two countries. There are many forests making great vacation areas along with the lovely beaches on the shores. You will find marinas, cottages, campgrounds, fishing camps, walking trails, ski do trails, and lovely views here. When you drive along the highway there is also a great amount of scenic waterview to see. Lake Huron is part of The St. Lawrence Seaway One of the ports where ships deliver grain to large elevators and take on salt from huge salt mines under the lake is called Goderich. You can see pictures of this port and some of the other ports at my url here. When we get south to the end of Lake Huron we come to Port Huron, Michigan, and Sarnia, Ontario. This is a very busy border crossing between the two countries and these are both good size but not huge cities. It is known as The Chemical Valley as freighters come in here to the docks with products to produce chemicals. These two cities have both industry and tourism factors. It is a lovely place to watch boaters and freighters as they enter St. Clair River and are very close and go by quite often. Many people from both countries go back and forth across the bridge here to shop and even have lunch.

Contributor's Note
Take a picture tour of some Ports on Lake Huron. Sorry, I don't have any from the U.S.A. side but it is just as lovely and scenic.
