Salt and ice can enter your dogs paws when walking in winter and can hurt the delicate pads. Wash with warm water when returning home. You can even buy little shoes for them especially if they are going on salted roads. On really cold days a small, short haired dog may like to have a cozy little coat and there are even raincoats with hoods for rainy days. Antifreeze is toxic to dogs (and cats too). Make sure none is leaking from your car or is left opened where they might drink it. A non toxic product is more expensive, but can be purchased. An outside dog needs a well-insulated house away from blowing wind. Check water frequently. On very cold nights dogs should be inside not outside. Do not alternate ... an inside dog is not used to being outside and will not have the thick fur buildup to keep them warm. Don't leave them in a car for very long as it gets very cold quickly. Most dogs love to play in snow, so let's get them out and get both of us some exercise and fun.
